Čaplovič Library Exhibition

To mark the 170th anniversary of its foundation, the Čaplovič Library on 20 April 2009 inaugurated a new exhibition of the unique collection dedicated to its founder, Vavrinec Čaplovič of Jasenová (5 August 1778 - 25 December 1853).

Visitors have an excellent opportunity to familiarize themselves with the scholar and private collector of books Vavrinec Čaplovič and the deed dated 15 April 1839 by which he donated his collection to Orava. Through short extracts with examples of title pages and attachments they get an overview of all the disciplines represented in the library fund (lexicons and bibliography, theology, philosophy, history and geography, sociology, law, philology, fiction, mathematics, science, art, reviews and miscellaneous). As of 31 December 2014 there were a total of 92,845 library items dating from the 14th to the 21th centuries.
Particular attention is devoted to demonstrations of the oldest parts of the collection - manuscripts and incunabula and the extremely beautiful and valuable collection of art and maps, which are installed on separate panels. Part of the exhibition consists of museum objects and old library prints.
We look forward to you visit!
